Did a little more today, I finished up one exhaust nozzle and fit tested the upper and lower center fuselage, mounted the inner exhaust and lower intake. Drew out the spine refueling receptacle, (that KH did not put on), speaking of that, KH put in the nose P&D probe on the G/H but not the C, go figure. The VooDoo had the option of using P&D or flying boom like the F-105 did. I also removed the formation lights from the fuselage and started on the tail. Formation lights did not come until late in the war, this will be a 1966 build and no formation light. I would like to see kits come with PE formation light bars so I can add them if I want rather than having molded on and needing to be removed. Oh well!
Yes but you had the B models. I used to watch them a little south of you as the Oregon Air National Guard flew them up until the early 80s.
Sad thing about the CF-101 was it's part in killing the Arrow.
So a little bit more this morning, I sanded (more like ground) out the formation lights. I then polished out the scarking from the heavy grit sanding stick left with some 10000 grit. While it's not all gone, being this will not be an NMI, I don't see whats left. I'll be painting it in a SEA scheme. I'm not sure yet but I'm leaning towards Jerry's Clown, 45th TRS, Tan Son Nught AB South Vietnam, 1966.
I also started scribing the spine for the AR receiving port.
So I've been trying to etch in the spine refueling receptacle with little success, I guess I'm not much of an artist, go figure! Well I got to thinking, does the Monogram F-101B have the receptacle etched in, NO, Oh my, no it does not!, Well I know the Monogram F-4C/D does, then I get to looking, Hasegawa F-4 is recessed, hmm what about the Academy F-4? Vola! the Academy F-4 kit is designed so the same fuselage upper half, has a receptacle block or a blank for the Navy birds. Took the receptacle section and cut the spine on the RF-101 and patched in the Academy part. I got glue under my thumb, I'll clean it up. Or I have 4 more Academy F-4B to steal from!
Carrying on, the KH way of producing a kit leaves a bit to be desired. If I were paying say $20-25, I might not complain so much (who am I kidding, RIGHT), anyway, there are long shots all over the kit. I am just going to point out a few, NOT ALL BY A LONG WAYS!
I have the spine receptacle in place so now I have to clean it up and have puttied the deep pits on the air brakes. Also added the tail to the upper fuselage. I'm hoping I can get a cleaner paint job by painting the upper and lower separately.
