Spitfire antenna base plate

I'm building a Spitfire and I've noticed that the antenna masts were mounted on a kind of plate whose colour differed from the overall camo - well illustrated in this colour pic of a Seafire... Seems to be a sort of reddy-brown colour. Can anyone tell me what the material was? Was it on all Mk V'...

Thanks for looking in Guys...more to show. More Canopy work including masking.

Also pulled a clanger which I did not initially notice.....put the elevators on upside down so had to remove the linkages (from the underside) and replaced them with small strips of plasticard on the topside...only make that mistake once....
also have built a Mk.Vc and she is at almost the same stage as the Mk,IX last 2 pics.....will be an Aussie bird.

Beauty Wayne. Elevators are at times a pain in the butt. After I posted that link, I struggled to find a decent period pic of the antenna base showing the dark colour. I finally found another Mk.IX showing it. If you look closely at your photos in Post #1 you can just make it out as well. This info I only leaned last month while looking for something else

I filed it under Sh!t happens...don't do it again....and as a result I can't walk on water this week now...

Well I'm glad someone was paying attention on the Antenna base as I had no idea....

Moving right along some paint has been splashed on both birds.....the Light Sea grey overall on the Mk.IX and Azure Blue mix on the MkVc which looks a bit different in person.....
