A U.S. Air Force Douglas A-1G Skyraider (BuNo 134997) of the 1st Air Commando Squadron prepares for take-off from
Pleiku Air Base, Vietnam, in 1966. This aircraft was shot down on 22 November 1966. The pilot was rescued and the
aircraft was later recovered but it was subsequently scrapped at Pleiku Air Base.

A U.S. Air Force Douglas A-1E Skyraider (s/n 52-135141) of the 1st Special Operations Squadron at Ubon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base, in December 1968. This aircraft was later shot down by a 9K32 Strela (NATO reporting code: SA-7 "Grail") over South Vietnam on 2 May 1972. The pilot was rescued.
 
I wonder, if there's a better photo of this girl somewhere....one can always hope! 😎🤞🏻
She doesn't wear any national markings it seems....🤨🤔

VAW-11 as xx-73.
Put into storage at NAF Litchfield Park, AZ.
29/09/1966: Struck off charge.
Transferred to the USAF as 52-135141.
USAF 22nd SOS.
1970: USAF 1st SOS.
1972: USAF 1st SOS.
02/05/1972: Shot down by an SA-7 near Quang Tri, South Vietnam. Or on 02/05/1971?

What is that thing?


It is the BLU 72/B Pave Pat I FAE (Fuel/Air Explosive) weighing 1130 kg (2500 lb) filled with 1020 kg (2245 lb) of propane. The similar bomb to the one was the BLU 76/B PAVE PAT II FAE weighing the 1200 kg (2650 lb) and containing the ethylene oxide which was more effective than the propane.
