The " Phönir" is the name of the vehicle only. It is not the panzerwagen but the Maschinengewehrkraftwagen ( machine gun vehicle ) Kfz.13. The vehicles were manufactured from 1933 to 1935. These MGVs based on the Adler 12/50 HP Standard 6 car. 14 of them were built on the chassis of the Mercedes-Benz 10/50 HP type Stuttgart 260. There were made 116 Kfz.13 in total.

The Kfz.13 and Kfz.14 were temporary solutions until properly-designed armored cars could be produced in sufficient numbers.
