Considering the vast damage that was done to Russia by the Germans, it was only natural the POW's would have been used to help clean up the mess they helped to make.

Like I said, my post is not just about the German soldiers as well. The cross on the hill just got me thinking of all the soldiers from all conflicts.

I lost 2 cousins on my mothers side, both in the Heer on the Ost front, and a third, very young died on his way back to Germany from a Soviet Gulag and he to served in the Heer.

My grandmother has a pic of where my grandfather came home from the Soviet camp. He was still in his Heer Uniform with no insignia and nothing.

Chris how did he look ......... like a concentration camp victim ?

evidently from friends of the Familie the # 3 cousin did. starved to almost death until his poor system just shut down

He was actually very very thin. I would not say like a concentration camp victom but very close.
