Most of the information in my other posting is the same GB-42 1/48 P-47D-23-RA - MTO II save for this is a bubble top which I'll admit I don't have much information on as yet.
Again assigned to the 57th FG 65th FS Corsica 1944, aircraft P-47D-27-RE is a Farmingdale built bubble top canopy D model. The P-47 D bubble tops started at the -25-RE block in Farmingdale, NY and the -26-RA in Evansville, IN. They went through many changes as the builds progressed. I like to use the Tamiya 1/48th P-47 series for these as I consider them the most accurate and detailed in the scale at this time. If a Bubble top is called for, I like to use the "M" model for it as it allows for all the changes throughout the production run through the "M" model.
One needs to know which block and the aircraft they intend to do as many changes happened in the field, both at the operating location and in field depots as well as factory mods. for instance the block 30-RE and -30-RA introduced compressibility flaps behind the landing gear and the -40-RA introduced a dorcel fillet down the spine to the vertical tail to increase lateral stability, lost when the razorback was cut down. Also the -30-RE and RA series introduced the flat cockpit floor. The -40, added stubs for zero length 5" rockets, both of these modes were done in the field to some extent. The Tamiya "M" kit supplies all these modes as well has has the complet "D" bubble top original kit which was an early bubble top with no fillet or compressibility flaps.
Look at the kit and note what I've pointed out.
I figured why do one when you can do two from the same outfit at the same time. This aircraft does not show up in "Thunderbolt" and I'll need to try and get some pictures of the subject. THe decals call for a silver hub on the Hamilton Standard prop hub but from watching the movie several times, it was the standard practice for the hub to be squadron colors, red in the 65th case.
