Hi all,

Just thought I'd share a project I've been working on for a number of months. That was a rendering from a couple months ago. Currently I've modeled stations 1-3, 9-13, and other little bits here and there. Unfortunately I need a new computer, the one I'm using is too low performance to render any new pictures now that I have so many parts made.
I'm using my access to aircorps library, which has ~90% of the drawings. I'm modeling each individual part as solids.

Hope you all enjoy. I'll try to add more as I can.

Here are some more. I appologize for the poor quality. Something isn't translating right from saving to jpeg. The box beam alone is rendered. The rest is not as I'm way under on ram requirements.

These are all solid parts here. There are a few minor errors/discrepancies.

Just wanted to posted a little interesting detail I figured out in the process of drawing up the Goose.

The drawings for the crossfloors from station 1 through 9 all had a note to refer to such and such a die number for the shape from the keel to the chines. This drive me nuts for a while.

The due numbers were listed as j2f 90##a, b, etc...

Finally one day in total desperation I looked up j2f(yes I know now it's a plane!). Realizing it was a plane and on aircorp librarie's site, I looked up the 9000 series of drawings. Lo and behold, there were the coordinates for the dies. Very recently I have been reading The Aircraft Designers, and in it it mentions an engineer named Koch who drew up the hull lines of the Goose using the Duck's lines.

Maybe not the exact location on the forums for this tidbit, but relevant to my thread.

Does that mean the Duck and the Goose shared common parts?
I think it was just the die to form the lower shape. The only parts I know of that were shared were the main landing gear and most of the retraction parts. These were also shared by the Wildcat.

After much tedious work, here are a few updates.
First, I had to rework the joggle where the center box beam piece intersected with the outer pieces of the center section. The drawing for the plates shows the outer overlapping with no jog. The center section assembly drawing shows detail view of a jog for both, but it's the wrong way. So after redoing it twice, here is what I came up with

I'll do a second post for the second update.
I got the rest of the stringers drawn up and the fittings that tie them together at station 30 1/4. Each fitting required 2 extrusions and 4 cuts. There are 11 fittings per side. (I mirrored the right hand ones, much easier!). The unpainted stringers are inside of the fuel tank.

I also found a minor issue in the drawings. The front and rear beams end up .024375" and .025" too far forward and rearward respectively of the center section bulkhead ribs.

So now fixing a million parts that are slightly misaligned...
 
Some more work on the center section. Mainly been adding the dozens of little fittings that attach the ribs to the spars.

Also of note, after 6 months of working on this I realized the front rib station 38 5/8 is actually 35 5/8...
The 5 was very blurry and looked like an 8.
