why is it the insides of so many aircraft are that cream/green colour is that just a coat of primer or something?

Its a zinc chromate primer.
I'm sure a modelling expert can elaborate,but I think all British ww2 aircraft and most American painted interiors this colour...thats cockpits and wheel wells/gun bays/radio bays etc.
Its called yellow green,interior green or cockpit green (or zinc chromate primer)
I've seen it listed as zinc chromate+aluminium paste up to zinc chromate+black enamel which explains the difference in colours between different aircraft/airforces
I believe some modellers spend hours researching things like this,so any more info would be welcome.
 
Forum wise ?.....combination of shiftwork,sleep and flu (sometimes all three at the same time !!)
Or do you mean visits?
Last visit in December was to Newark Air Museum to photograph their lovely Saab Viggen
Next visit to Cosford to look in their new hanger.
