I had a layover, last year, and went down to have lunch at the Ikea. I was looking for a way to get closer to her. I think the foundation could have made some money by doing short tours. I know there isn't much on her.
They will probably never make another like her.
Couldn't a wealthy tycoon from a foreign land buy her, refit, then sink her in shallow waters so she could be used as a spy station??

A very sad end to what was the crowning achievement of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. I had three uncles who were involved in her construction. I remember one uncle had a large oil painting of the SS United States hanging in his living room over the fireplace along with his "Plank Owner" certificate.
