A rare find, the engine of a Fokker G.1 was found in a canal. Up 'till now there were hardly any parts left of a Fokker G.1 mercury.
A press release, unfortunately in dutch, so sorry for the babelfish translation:
March 2011 ring speed Haarlemmermeer gives up unique piece war history Breeder G 1 plane engine very particular acquisition CRASH air war and resistance museum `40 45 eel greater bridge - in museumweekend that it is kept on 2 and 3 April, is newest acquisition of the CRASH Luchtoorlog and resistance museum 45 40 to see: bristol Mercury engine of a breeder G 1. This engine was found previous year October by the province Noord-Holland in the ring speed of Haarlemmermeer at ship schiphol East and transferred in January 2011 to CRASH. It concerns here a really unique piece from the military aviation history of the Netherlands. After museumweekend the engine goes temporary behind the baffles for closer research and conservering. Some time ago CRASH Luchtoorlog and resistance museum 40 were approached 45 with the communication that there during a mud operation of the province Noord-Holland plane engine had been found in the ring speed close ship schiphol East and that this an engine of a breeder fighting plane would be. CRASH have specialised themselves the last years in the air war during the May days 1940 and had been thus extremely interested. Immediately it was suspected that there was talk of an unique find. At the province was appealed to transfer so that the engine to CRASH these could be added to the collectie and been subject to a closer study into the origin. This request became remunerated. Already rapidly suspecting started rise that go for the driving force behind a breeder G 1 could it, of the most sophisticated planes which the Dutch air power departments in the May days 1940 was available. The apparatus also for which the Duitsers were most afraid. That would mean that a really rare piece history from the ring speed had been fished. The previous years CRASH have become clear that everything have not been well documented concerning what with Dutch war planes, which had all their own registration number, has happened. There several tales concerning planes do the round which stood on ship schiphol or that put on ship schiphol in the May days; tales concerning planes which were on or at the airport gecrasht or that became clear determined be destroyed to love them from hands the Duitsers then that lost the fight were. But also that plane wrecks on boats in the ring speed were placed by the enemy to are removed and that which was pushed off, as a type resistance action, at night of the barges. That have been also happened with breeder G 1 plane.
