The underside 'Stars n Bars' are correct Andy. An extra, outsize star and bar was added, at the BADs or at unit level, under the port wing, as a further aid to identification, to avoid confusion with the FW190, as the P-47 was the only allied radial-engined fighter in the ETO.
Eventually, by around mid to late 1944, the extra insignia was added at the factories, both sides then being of equal proportions, first the over-sized example, and then the 'standard' size. By early 1945, new P-47's reverted back to the standard, single insignia, although both could still be seen, especially on 9th Air Force aircraft.
