These were RF-101C from the 66th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, at Laon Air Base, France.
One was intercepted by two Vautours while taking pics from the nuclear plant at Pierrelatte in 1965.
Yes, the RF-101 was used for years, including extensively in Vietnam. It could take better pictures than the RF-4C. But I was referring to the F-101A fighter version.

There were no F-101 fighter wing permanently stationned in France. On the other end, temporary detachment could occur.
Also, the USAFE Air Force Materiel Command was based at Châteauroux-Déols and it is possible that some F-101 to be sent there for maintainance.
By the way, a F-101 has been restored by the Association Les Ailes Anciennes at Toulouse under the colors of the Minnesota National Guard.

9 had been ordered by Katanga but only 3 coded KAT 91, KAT 92 and KAT 93, were delivered directly from Toulouse in violation of the UN embargo, by a Stratocruiser from the US Seven Seas Airlines company at Luana (Elisabethville airport) on february 17, 1961.

I recall hearing of a African nation that sent a dozen pilot trainees to the USSR in the 1960's. When they returned home they were issued Soviet built jet aircraft and told to participate in a mass flyover of the annual independence day parade. The result was a huge mid-air collision over the parade, involving all the the aircraft. The two pilots that survived were sent back to the USSR for further training along with a dozen new pilot applicants.

I am sure it was a hellva show and no doubt the highlight of the parade.

Is that the one that shot down Dag Hammarskjöld the UN secretery general? Usually had two nose guns, looks like the nose has been changed. Is it true the Katangese ate the Italian pilots of the F-86s?

I have read something about a belgian pilot named Jan Van Risseghem.

B-36H-30-CF designated EB-36H and assigned to 4925th Test Group (Atomic). Used for testing optical monitoring devices, with special markings for proper camera calibration. Redesignated JB-36H after 1955. To Davis–Monthan AFB Jun 19, 1957 and scrapped there.
