Once many decades ago, my airplane nut buddy and I were in a restricted area taking pics, in Florida, when we encountered a young man, about fourteen, photoing planes with an old Argus with no winding knob. He used a fork on the nub to wind the film. He asked what we did when we were found in restricted areas. We had printed cards of our photo business and usually were told to leave the area. We told him he was still in the magical young age where the young and the old people were usually run off. Everyone in between could be at risk. He said, "My Dad's a Colonel and that usually gets me off."

Normally seems to work. At Kadena I requested a flight line photo pass and had pretty much a free run of the flight line. Not for the RC's or SR line but full access to the 18th TFW. I was with the 961st AWACS so I had run there as well. But a letter in your pocket and a line badge works great.

Once at Tyndall, we went to flight ops and asked permission just to photo the F-16s on the line. The Major said just stay where the tower could see us. After the sixth time the AP's drove up, different unit each time, we realized the Major was testing security so we left and thanked him on the way out.
