The aspect ratio is definitely off. Not sure what processing you're using, but there's stuff that can preserve clarity without costing much res.

I had no idea they were still flying FJ-1's that late! FJ-1 was basically a jet powered P-51, a bit corpulent, perhaps, but still fairly attractive.

As I answered earlier - that photo was of the 1948 carrier trials - the last FJ-1 was retired in 1953.

For what became the A-7A the two choices were a design based on the F-8 and a beefed up FJ.

And an enlarged A-4 (A4D-6) - all 3 of these used the TF30 engine.

The Modified Fury had a ground-attack radar in the lower intake lip - not very attractive:

After considering a TF-30 engined variant of the F11F Tiger, Grumman entered a single-seat simplified A-6 in the competition that still used 2 J52s - despite the US Navy specifying that use of the TF30 was required.

Apparently the horizontal stabilizers were to fold as well to save more deck space:

Of note the MiG29 has a centerline fuel tank installed (non-jettisonable) which also prevented use of the gun (casings are jettisoned during gun use).
