In 1:72, I would use a Revell kit (with modified radiator) for that, with it's over-emphasized sagging between the ribs, as I remember Roald Dahl saying the canvas on their Hurricanes sagged badly in the desert heat, and they looked like starving donkeys (or possibly camels, I think donkeys though)

One of Bob Glazebrook's 1/12 scale models. Apart from the engines and props this one was scratch built using diagrams and photos from flight magazine and other pubs of the period. I think it is in the Brisbane museum. Next time I am in there I will try and make time to ask and try and get photos of the P-39 and MB-5..
