Just heard something interesting.

In 2022 the FDA found that many thousands of people are allergic to sesame seeds, so they categorized them as an allergen.

This action required food companies to make sure that sesame seeds were not included in their products unless they were listed as an ingredient.

This was a real problem for the food companies, since sesame seeds are very tiny and very hard to filter out, but the fines for failing to do so were substantial.

So the answer the food companies came up with was to deliberately add sesame seeds to all their products and list them as ingredients.
 
Heard something else interesting.

In 2019 the Govt of Mexico decided they needed lots more trees so they started a tree planting program and offered to pay people to take care of them.

They burned through $3B very quickly but the program did not pay for maintaining existing trees.

So poor people began cutting down the existing trees so they could be replaced with newly planted trees that they were paid to maintain.

The net result was that 280 square miles were deforested as the result of a program to add more trees.
