I accidentally rebooted the network switch for the entire third floor.

Internet disappeared.

Phones dropped.

About 70 employees immediately stood up from their desks like prairie dogs.

I had two choices:

Admit I clicked the wrong switch.

Become proactive.

I sent this message:

"Unannounced infrastructure resilience exercise currently in progress. Please continue normal operations."

Then I waited five minutes and turned everything back on.

Service restored.

No data loss.

Nobody died.

The CTO replied:

"Love that we're testing this stuff proactively."

So I wrote a post-exercise report.

Objective: Validate employee response to unexpected connectivity loss.

Result: Successful.

Finding: Employees become extremely loud after approximately 12 seconds without internet.

Recommendation: Continue resilience testing quarterly.

My mistake now has a budget.
I just have one Question

1 - How did he send the message with the internet and phones down?

Yes I am the one that no one will watch airplane movies with ever again, and I think Die hard 2 is the funnyest movie ever made!

A piece of cake compared to an 8-track spilling it's guts.

TOOLS EXPLAINED

DRILL PRESS:
A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it.

WIRE WHEEL:
Cleans paint off bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench with the speed of light. Also removes fingerprints and hard-earned calluses from fingers in about the time it takes you to say, "Oh, Shit!"

SKILL SAW:
A portable cutting tool used to make studs too short.

PLIERS:
Used to round off bolt heads. Sometimes used in the creation of blood-blisters.

BELT SANDER:
An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs.

HACKSAW:
One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the moredismal your future becomes.

VISE-GRIPS:
Generally used after pliers to completely round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand.

OXYACETYLENE TORCH:
Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your shop on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside the wheel hub out of which you want to remove a bearing race.

TABLE SAW:
A large stationary power tool commonly used to launch wood projectiles for testing wall integrity.

HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK:
Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper.

BAND SAW:
A large stationary power saw primarily used by most shops to cut good aluminium sheet into smaller pieces that more easily fit into the trash can after you cut on the inside of the line instead of the outside edge.

TWO-TON ENGINE HOIST:
A tool for testing the maximum tensile strength of everything you forgot to disconnect.

PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER:
Normally used to stab the vacuum seals under lids or for opening old-style paper-and- tin oil cans and splashing oil on your shirt; but can also be used, as the name implies, to strip out Phillips screw heads.

STRAIGHT SCREWDRIVER:
A tool for opening paint cans. Sometimes used to convert common slotted screws into non-removable screws and butchering your palms.

PRY BAR:
A tool used to crumple the metal surrounding that clip or bracket you needed to
remove in order to replace a 50 cent part.

HOSE CUTTER:
A tool used to make hoses too short.

HAMMER:
Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.

UTILITY KNIFE:
Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to the shop; works particularly well on contents such as seats, vinyl records, liquids in plastic bottles, collector magazines, refund checks, and rubber or plastic parts. Especially useful for slicing work clothes, but only while in use.

CHAIN SAW:
Employed to create a very fine but none-the-less useless cellulose based talcum type powder which otherwise would be utterly unachievable through use of a sharpened saw. Generally employedto drop trees across trails which less scenically had hitherto not been blocked. In the process generating tension inducing suspense as to the survivability of creating so useless a by-product through so necessary an endeavour.Hence, created emotion paralleled only through live combat, ghetto knife fights, pit bull encounters or watching realistic war films.

SON OF A BITCH TOOL:
Any handy tool you grab and throw across the work shed while yelling "Son of a bitch" at the top of your lungs. It is also, most often, the next tool that you will need.

An Australian Love Poem
(Who said Australian men weren't romantic?)

Of course I love ya darling
You're a bloody top notch bird
And when I say you're gorgeous
I mean every single word

So ya bum is on the big side
I don't mind a bit of flab
It means that when I'm ready
There's somethin' there to grab

So your belly isn't flat no more
I tell ya, I don't care
So long as when I cuddle ya
I can get my arms round there

No sheila who is your age
Has nice round perky breasts
They just gave in to gravity
But I know ya did ya best

I'm tellin ya the truth now
I never tell ya lies
I think its very sexy
That you've got dimples on ya thighs

I swear on me nanna's grave now
The moment that we met
I thought u was as good as
I was ever gonna get

No matter wot u look like
I'll always love ya dear
Now shut up while the footy's on
And fetch another beer!

HA! I remember those GREAT days when you could take some CD's, put them in the multidisk player, program it up to play the songs in the sequence you wanted, put a blank tape in the cassette tape deck and .... VIOLA! In a mere thirty minutes you would have a tape ready to pop in your car's tape player!

But now..... what the hell....
