In mechanical testing there is a test called a Charpy test. In English unless you know what it is you have no clue about it. The test is named after a Mr Charpy who was French, but in French a Charpy test is called an "essai de resilience" Which describes what the test does it tests resilience. In German it is kerbschlagbiegeversuch which literally means "prism hit bend test" which describes how the test works. I worked in France with a French QA manager called Mr Charpy, not once did he call a Charpy test an "essai de Charpy" in French, however you had to listen carefully in French and not confuse the man you were talking to with the test you were talking about.
