They have built a new turbine-engine prototype homebuilt at our airport. Driving by, I notice its N-number and had to stop and ask them why they picked that one.

The N Number is N602TU. That is 602 Tango Uniform.

They said they wanted the N number to have 602 in it because that is the model number of the airplane and there were only a very few choices for letters to be added to it, the others being already taken, so they went with TU.

Tango Uniform is military slang for "Tits Up", which means the same as "Belly Up" and signifies something broke or unserviceable.

They had no idea that Tango Uniform had that association. I laughed for a good half hour.
