That's why they are great value.

Sorry Andy but I don't agree I'm afraid. I agree that many of us have spare decal markings. But these are either incomplete because part of them have already been used or we gave them up becuase of an inaccuracy of colours etc.. for instance. Secondly most of guys want to make their models as sharp as it is possible. So these photoetched, resin parts are needed. The lack of them with kits results in buying these aftermarket sets that aren't too cheap. Willy-nilly a modeller has to spend more of money for these extra pieces. As a result it may appear that purchasing of a profi pack can be cheaper than buying of the overtrees kit with all these extras.
I can see there one cheap thing only - a cheat marketing hook. This is my opinion though.

Based on that train of thought you could be right Wurger, but not everyone insists on making every rivet count like you do. I for one rarely see the added value of adding a boat loads of scrap metal or resin wheel wells and cockpits that you can't see for the most part anyway (unless you inspect it with a magifying glass and insist on looking at the wheel wells all the time). If I want to add extra detail to my models I'd much rather try and spice it up by scratch-building something then taking the easy (and expensive) way out. Apart from being more rewarding for me personally the effect usually is about as good (if done right) and a lot cheaper too.

Also, as far as these new Eduard kits are concerned, if you insist on buying all this photo-etch and resin stuff to go with it, you'd have to buy it seperately anyway (unless you buy the $100+ Royal Class Edition) so to my mind these overtrees are a better starting point...no matter in which direction you decide to take it.

Mate, I understand your point of the view. And honestly don't insist on making every rivet count. However there is not too many modellers just like you who prefers making parts from scratch to buying these expensive extra aftermarket parts. The entire rest of them preferes all this photo-etch and resin stuff because they don't have either a spare time for scratch-building or abilities. Or neither this nor that. In the case buying of a such kit can cause nothing but trouble with the extra purchases. And this should be taken into consideration as well. And it was the reason for paying attention to the aspect of trading.

Probably not a contribution to the above discussion, because I think I had very little choice, but as I understood that to make a good 1/32 model of Dewoitine D.520, you need to purchase the Contact Resine upgrade kit

So I placed an order on e.bay and I just received correct nose and prop blades, nicely moulded tail pieces and radiator cowl, plus metal landing gear legs.
The p.e. fret is good as well and includes landing gear covers.

But so now I have four options for cockpit sides: metal and resin from above kit plus plastic and resin from Azur kit ... will be good for the spare box.

Unfortunately the Contact Resin kit is more expensive than the Azur aeroplane kit!

Almost 5yrs. of patiently waiting and searching has paid off. I can finally finish my P-47N that's been on hold. Shellpusher was my call-sign when I played CFS3. If anyone wants the Red-E-Ruth decals, let me know.

Good stuff chaps.
Geo, make sure you spray those decals with a good clear coat, allowing it to fully harden for a t least 12 hours.
Microscale stopped producing aircraft decals under their own name some years ago, much is the pity, although Xtradecal and some others are made by them. I used some decals from an old Microscale sheet on my last build, the F-84, and even the one's clear coated broke up!
Unusual for their decals, but they were getting on a bit.

My quest on the auction house is over. It wasn't the 5yr wait I had for P-47N decals shown above but it was over a year and 4 lost bidding wars. This time it was just me bidding and I got it for 2/3 the price when I was out bid. Now I just have to figure out the differences between a P-39D and a P-400. I know there's a difference in the propeller cannon and exhausts. I've got a 601sqn. P-400 buried somewhere in the Start to Finish section. The P-39D fits into my oddball schemes theme. So now I say farewell eBay, no more will I haunt you for hours on end. Except now I need a P-39D, P-39Q, an A6M2 Zero(Damn you again Cory), decals for said Zero..........

I'll take those off your hands and re-home them, in a nice loving home, thank you very much! ;)

George, I'm not that up on P-38 sub models but for some reason I think the difference in the P-400 was the gun. I have a copy it the Detail Scale book somewhere and I'm sure the answer will be in there somewhere. I'll dig it out and have a look tomorrow.

I went to Squadrons website last week for some paint and there was a big clearance sale going on so naturally I bought way too many kits which arrived today. The only ones I've opened up so far are the H-16 and the DC-6. The H.12 is way smaller than I thought it would be and the DC-6 way larger. What a monster, the fuselage looks bigger than a 1/48th B-24!
