Nice one Geo, and cheers everyone!

Andy and Jim, there was another MU-2S on E-bay when I bought mine, might still be there. Hasegawa also did the MU-2J (longer fuselage, same wings), a few of these on E-Bay at the moment.

Good stuff Geo. Had my eye on that as well for my stringbag but couldn't get past the fact that the rigging would be flat. Looking forward to see what you do with it.

Flats just as accurate as round for many bracing wires!

Bracing wires are most often not round wires. I have the dimensions for the flying wires on a Walrus rather than a Swordfish to hand. They are 0.55" by 0.15". The strut wires are 0.36" by 0.09", so a long way from round. In scale they are not far from 'flat'.

The only round wires on the Walrus are those bracing the cabane struts, the large ones supporting the upper wing above the fuselage (0.5" or 0.3" diameter depending on position).

They are also silver in colour, not black as per many kit instructions.

Measurements from the Fleet Air Arm Museum.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Andy and thanks for that Steve. I was thinking about doing a test and running some clear coat along them to take some of the flatness out. I'll drag out my references first.

My decals and 'odds 'n sods' order arrived from Hannant's today, but still waiting for the Humbrol Clear and some sable brushes from Model Hobbies, and a book on the Mirage III via Amazon - the latter not even dispatched yet, even though it was ordered last weekend.

The MiG-17/Lim-5 decals are for the recently acquired Hobby Boss Shenyang J-5, and the colour sheet shown is just one from the very nicely printed and presented package. This is in Polish, although self-explanatory.
No doubt I'll be seeking the help and advice of Herr Prof. Dipl. Eng. Wojtek, when I get around to doing this one !
The other decals are markings and stencils for the Italeri Tornado GR1, and the stencil sheets are mind-boggling !
Paint and brass pitot for the Danish '771' Starfighter.

Thanks my friend.
It's a very nicely presented package, and at a very reasonable price, with four sheets of colour profiles, and enough 'checker' decals to cover two complete models. The numbers cover the rest of the many options, both 'silver' and various camouflage schemes.
I'll be contacting you when I get around to doing this, to check on the 'bare metal' finish which I believe was used in the early days, before the 'Aluminium' lacquer finish, and also to check on small details and cockpit info etc. I might ask for a translation of some of the details on the colour sheets too!
