I've been using them for twenty years. They've only gotten better. If I'm ordering paint I stock until the shipping goes up and than back off. There standard shipping rate US is like $9.95 or 8. I have two GWH 1/48 F-14's coming in and the ship UPS. Smaller orders will be stamp savers (UPS to USPS) but larger orders are UPS. They normally ship in three days and CS is super fast. If I order something one day and something else before it ships I just email and they can combine and will refund my shipping.
You would think a region as large as Houston would have more than one hobby shop for model kits. Michaels and Hobby Lobby don't really count. They hardly ever rotate stock.

They have been bleeding off over the decades. G&G seems to be the hold over. Their new space is more convenient than the old Rice Village area but at least they (as I understand it) owned that site. The new shop is rental and I never see anyone there when I am. We have a small but well stocked store in Katy called A-Z toy and hobbies. It started as a Gundum shop but they have a nice selection of aircraft and armor and a huge selection of paints from Tamiya, Vallejo, AK and Mr. Hobby as well as other top brands. Most all the tools and the prices are reasonable. Can I get it cheaper on line, sure but I gotta throw a bone out if I want to keep him around. We get together sometime and go check him out. Still a drive for you northern folks.

Just arrived. I ordered this at the end of October with thoughts of doing it during the current GB while at the same time building Gentiles "D" model. However, the posties went on strike and it got caught in the backlog. I'm humming and hawing about the next GB so I might just do this anyhow

One thing I learned about 20 minutes ago, I'll just copy/paste the info

There is one thing to note if you are doing Don Gentile's "Shangri-La," however: the instructions say to paint the forward part of the spinner white, while the rest is 4th Fighter Group red; this is wrong. Fact: the 4th FG began painting their noses red (instead of the official white ID) shortly after Big Week in late February, 1944. Gentile kept the forward part of his spinner white, as individual identification between he and Johnny Godfrey. Don Blakeslee didn't like that, and ordered Gentile and Godfrey to conform their paint jobs. The famous picture of the two of them taken in front of "Shangri-La" was taken March 3, 1944, before the abortive Berlin raid on the 4th. That night, both planes' spinners were painted red. (Trust me on this, I have researched the 4th thoroughly, interviewing both pilots and ground crew.). The point of all this is to say that, whichever scoreboard you use - early (circa March 15, 1944) or late(circa April 5, 1944) - by that time the spinner was all red.

I found photos of this aircraft that show both so he isn't wrong

I've got a lot of his plane after his "Mishap" that got him shipped back home.
I can share the folder with you if it would help?!

Anyone have any ideas about the left wing root colour, soot?
Could be a mix of dirt and mud as well as a bit of scuffing over the original paintwork but I would also say a bit of touch-up paintwork as it seems to follow the line of the wing root panel. Looking at the paint behind the canopy under the lettering, this looks faded and worn but on the wing root you can see where some of the gunge has been rubbed off to show the "STEP HERE" mark. Just my 10 penneth!
