SA Model Expo (Adel) 2007

nice!

BTW wayne your model is really nice too!

Early Japanese aircraft were painted with a gloss paint to help protect them from corrosion. Also the Carrier groups were the elite of the Japanese Navy and their aircraft were kept in near perfect condition to reflect their status.

Now, the paint was applied in Oct 41 towards the end of their training for the Pearl Harbor attack, shortly thereafter they were stowed back aboard the carriers for their trip to Northern Japan to rendezvous with the rest of the attack fleet and then headed off to Hawaii for the PH attack.

The aircraft were now well protected from the elements and kept in their 'new' condition....

I can't vouch for the stormovik's condition, however!

Cool Il2!

At last something from my vicinity.:D The model looks really good.THX Wayne.:D

And Dan, not always the Russian planes looked like the scrap-metal.

Just a question, but was there some sort of interrupter on the rear gun of the IL2 or for that matter any rear gun firing ahead of the vertical stab of any plane? If not, I would guess the rear gunner would have to keep his wits about him so as not to shoot his own tail off!!

An interrupter for the rear gun - I haven't heard about the kind of device used on Il-2 so far.

I would think maybe a couple of dogs on the mounting that would force the gun up and around the verticle stab

I like it as well!

Great shot throught the trees Wayne :) Real effective :D

Nice hawk, wayne! I'm looking forward to seeing Wojtek's when it's done too..:D

Re the interrupters, etc for rear guns, Dave, aircraft like the Hampden had a metal rail mounted on the rear fueslage directly aft of the tail gunner. The rail was straight for the area between the tails (The Hampden was twin tailed) and raised in 'camel hump' forms to guide the gun barrels up, to avoid shooting it's own fin posts off. I have read of other aircraft (Hudsons and venturas ??) that didn't have any form of interruption gear, with the inevitable accidents occuring...

No worries Guys....:D

Ok time for the Luftwaffe to make an appearance.....

Whats the overall grey scheme for?

Love the aerial wire to the open canopy.
