Seems like every 20 years, we get a wild winter with snow and rain across the state, resulting in floods, landslides and insane snow accumulation at higher elevations while places like Los Angeles get a dusting.

Winters of 1968 and 1988 were the craziest, but this year looks like it's going to give it a try.

Oh, and the weather service just issued a blizzard warning for the North-eastern Sacramento Valley!

Snowfall warning is over and now its just snowing for the next two days. So far we have roughly 112cms/44" on the ground which includes compaction and one week of plus temperatures

-Snow. I'm not complaining; we need the moisture.
-But: Interstate Highway 80 is closed again. It was closed mush of last week and may well be closed until Tuesday. The front that is passing through now has another right behind it.
-Avalanche warnings along some mountain highways that are still open.
-We aren't actually receiving feet of snow below 7,000 ft (2100m) but the wind is gusting to over 50mph (80kph) causing whiteout due to blowing snow so even a few inches per hour is dangerous.

It's been the same for a week or so:
Snow
Snow but might rain
Rain, no snow
Might rain
May be some snow mixed with rain
Thunderstorms, no snow
Snow, rain AND thunderstorms

It's as though they're tossing out guesses to see who wins the backroom pool over at the weather service...
