Friday's chapter of "the weather service is sniffing glue":

Forecast: "Atmosoheric River to bring heavy rainfall, dangerous flooding and strong winds to the area".

What really happened: Sunny, clear skies and a light breeze out of the north-west. Yesterday's snow has about melted away by now.

-From snow to rain and back again.
-In the interim saturated soils are causing problems. The attached photo is of US highway 95, the principal road between Reno and Las Vegas. The slide happened this afternoon and the state highway department is mum as to when it will reopen. It is now an additional 100 miles to get to the next town to the north.

A friend of ours got stuck in that mess. They diverted them back through GABBS, then forward again to Fallon.

Day before yesterday: Springtime! Sunny and temps in 40s F. Snowpiles evaporating.
Yesterday: Back to winter again, 7 inches snow. Temps in 20s.
Now: Snow piled everywhere, slush coming down. Hovering at 32° F. Sugarhouses are steaming.

We're going from 86° down to highs in the 50's lows going from mid to high 60's down to high 30's low 40's! Can't say as I'm really equipped for this.
