This particular B-17G (Duxford based "Sally B") used to be in NMF, but, as part of the "fee" for appearing in the 1990 movie "Memphis Belle", it was re-painted to represent "Memphis Belle" , with the chin turret removed.
Further additions post movie were the ball turret and other fittings, also part of the "fee", and the Memphis Belle artwork was retained on the starboard side, with the "Sally B" nose art repainted on the port side.
I assume the thinking is that it's better to have the protection of paint, rather than bare metal in the British weather, so the movie colour scheme has been retained.
