All the news outlets are proclaiming a "bomb cyclone" hitting the West Coast.

Sounds dramatic, but is nothing more than a typical atmospheric river carried by the jet stream that used to be called a "pineapple express" that will bring heavy rain to the valley amd snow to the upper elevations.

But drama sells, I suppose.

Since every weather event, big or small, is now a harbinger of the end of the world, you need to have language to conveys that message.
