All the news outlets are proclaiming a "bomb cyclone" hitting the West Coast.

Sounds dramatic, but is nothing more than a typical atmospheric river carried by the jet stream that used to be called a "pineapple express" that will bring heavy rain to the valley amd snow to the upper elevations.

But drama sells, I suppose.

Since every weather event, big or small, is now a harbinger of the end of the world, you need to have language to conveys that message.

They're forcasting 60 mph winds in some areas. That's not nothing.

California always has high-wind events, especially in SoCal in the way of the Santa Ana winds.
The higher elevations can usually see higher gusts.
