will do guys just got to remember how to down load pics again .The mitchell is an awesome kit only let down by the decals so i will have to purchace some suitable naked nose art all in the name modelling .bb
 
wings of the connie painted in light gray. stupidly forgot a panel on the top of the wings towards the tips. and I had an...ordeal with my airbrush and compressor, yesterday. and I was NOT going through that again. so I did it by brush. I'm most likely gonna need a new compressor and airbrush. thank goodness for Harbor Freight Tools.

737 wings done, tailplanes, too (not shown) just gotta apply the dark gray (I'll use the primer for that) and the chrome silver for the leading edges of the wings
 
I keep getting condensation in my hose. Airbrush Kit - Save on this Airbrush and Compressor Kit if you zoom in, you can see the clear cylinder where the air is channeled through. I keep getting condensation in there. probably normal, but there was a big buddle inside there...and the puddle was orange. which indicates there might be rust inside.

as for the airbrush....it sputters. my last one never did that.
 
Can't you manually release the air from the glass cylinder? Mine has a release valve below it, similar to that in the photo you posted. If you can push that in, it will release the condensation.
Not sure about that orange colour though, one of the more expert guys can probably help there.

Re the sputtering, is it continuous? Mine does that occasionally, usually when there's a small obstruction in the nozzle. Don't know how well or often you clean your airbrush, but if you give the nozzle and pin a good cleanup with Nitro thinners it should solve the sputtering.
 
that's the thing, this is a brand new airbrush (thank god for Harbor Freight. they sell those for $14)
 
My first airbrush was a cheap(ish) Revell bottle job, which never worked right from the start. Put me off them for years till later workmates recommended a cup type - MUCH better!
 
wasn't able to get anything done over the weekend (bloody yardwork). but last night I thought I'd start masking the toughest part of the connie: the nose. If you look at pics of TWA Super Connies, you can see there's a unique "M" shape separating the white from the natural metal. I grabbed the nose gear doors and dry-fitted them in. then took masking tape and draped it over the area needed to be masked. then took a pencil and drew the line. constantly adjusting by looking at multiple photos of TWA connies. and I think I got it. all that's left now is to make a cut, and peel off the area to be painted.

aand the rest is masked and cut


still got the wings to do, just gotta figure out how wide the gray areas are.
 
heh, thanks guys! better grab one, Lucky! the revell Germany ones are seriously going outta style! if you want the civilian one, airline hobby supply inc. has those. but everywhere else has the C-121 version
 
got a LOT of painting done, today. both the connie main bodies, wings, engines, tails have been painted chrome silver!

thoughts? (just the Connie for now)
 
Looks good to me Rob. Would maybe suggest a light panel line wash to break up the strong glare a little though? ('scaling' it down a tad, so to speak)

What colour are the areas behind the nacelles going to be btw?
