Contrary to the starboard flap the one on the port side wasn't repainted. IMHO it could be an attempt to clean up the area because of the exhaust stains. The German fuel smoked so much because of that at the end of the war. Certainly the repainting can't be excluded. But what colour .. I doubt we may find out the tone. I bet it was the "JRD" one.

Looking terrible in macro, the two 1:72 TA-4J cockpits so far (not finished).
They look alot better with the naked eye - the paint textures obvious here aren't visible - but will clean up some areas anyway.
(Detail is sparse, so largely painted on. Side consoles are far too narrow too, but these are OOB for the kids, so will refrain from improving)
