What's wrong.....with todays music?

Not all modern music is gangsta rap and not all modern music is rubbish. There are still some talented bands around. Sometimes the people on this forum sounds like old farts (which some probably really are  )

Agreed. If someone cannot find any good music, they are either:

a). Not looking.

b). Not trying.

c). Are closed minded.

d). A combination of the three above.

Don't take me wrong. I prefer older music (70s, 80s, early 90s rock/metal) but music is an art form, and there is good music in every generation. You just have to open your ears and mind.

Remember, the parents and generation before these old farts complaining about today's music were complaining about their music and saying the same thing "What's wrong with these kids and their music today?"

There are quite a lot of talented and well-distributed musicians and song writers out there. One problem is that FM radio, which is still a major distribution chain, is very nearly a monopoly.

Sure, I like some rap but gangsta rap is essentially violence porn, so yeah, no.

The only genre I detest across the board is opera, because the singing ruins some beautiful music, for me. I can find something I like in every other genre and era.

Opera sopranos sound like a cat being castrated using a power hacksaw blade being flushed with running Skydrol.

For non aviation people - Skydrol is a fire resistant hydraulic fluid that "burns" your eyes and other soft tissues even when diluted over 500:1.

We've got a great public radio station here that does nothing but music, and it plays a wiiiiiide variety of pop, rock, country, and soul. I put it on when I'm grilling out back, I can hear Vampire Weekend followed by Britney Howard followed by Willie Nelson followed by the Cars, etc.

There's no classical, blues, or jazz on the airwaves around here, but that's why I have a CD player.

My father complained about the Beatles until I bought an LP called something like The London Philharmonic play the Beatles. No more complaints after that. Me earlier playing a Spike Jones record in reply to his complaint about lyrics might have helped as well

I tend to listen to more streaming now - you pick a genre, and let it go. eventually you'll end up somewhere completely unexpected. Have come across some decent bands this way.

Our local radio station's tag line is "Playing what we feel like" and they play an even mix across most genres of music.

Opera sounds like a Tomcat getting his ooglies crushed.
