This is old and well known Airfix Spitfire Mk Vb. It is OOB only i add plastic card to fill wheel well (between wings) and re-scribe panel lines, to get some updated look.
Model is prepared for wash and final coat of mat warmish and weathering.
Also some final details are missing: mirror...
The Spitfire XIVE had 142.5 UKG (171.1 USG/647.8l) of internal fuel.
The Spitfire XVIII had 175.5 UKG (210.8 USG/797.8l) of internal fuel.
If fitted with drop tanks, like the experimental IX the USAAF modified, could you get a XIV/XVIII to Berlin and back?
A former member of this site PM'd me with some comments about the La-7 thread.
He was of the opinion that some of the Hawker products were better low down performers than the La-7, though I pointed out that they had 500hp+ more power.
Anyway, We got around to comparing the low down...
One of these days I will build a 317 Squadron Spitfire with my initials D JH ( JH D ).
Has anyone here built "their" bird and if so do you have photos of the build.
Seeing Rochie's Spitfire with his daughter's initials got me to wondering.
Cheers
Jeff
I found this in an old book " U.S. Air Force Academy The Life of a Cadet" by Jack Engman, 1962 edition.
I don't see this Mk XVI on the lists of surviving Spitfires.
Where is it now? Was it traded away?
The inscription in the scroll reads " This Spitfire is representative of the aircraft...

Hey, All,
I am finishing up the Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk V. I picked up the UltraCast control surface kit. I have all the molded in surfaces removed. It hit me as I was test fitting the ailerons..... deflection of the ailerons in the up versus down direction. Is this a linear deflection? e.g...

Hello everyone,
This is yet another of my major threads. I were wondering, what Spitfire mark do you either like the most or assume is better than the rest?
Basically, which is the best Spitfire mark? Personally, I think the XIX is quite cool, but my favourite for now would have to be the...
Okay, so the Spitfire Mk XIV has a few different wing options, but which one is the best?-
The 'A' Wing had 8 x 7.7mm machine guns.
The 'B' Wing had 4 x 7.7mm machine guns and 2 x 20mm cannon.
The 'C' Wing had 4 x 7.7mm machine guns and 2 x 20mm cannon or 4 x 20mm cannon.
The 'E'...
Greetings all, I feel slightly embarrassed cluttering up your awesome forums with these near-pointless threads ...
You may or may not have seen the thread I made about the Spitfire vs Mustang, but just to let you know the Spitfire crumpled the
'Stang! Anyway, I've heard that...
Hello everyone, this is my first post! I thought I'd better start by posting something that we all want to know; which was the better dogfighter, the truly British Spit, or the all American Mustang? Posts like this have been done before, but I'm curious for the true answer.
Okay...
I was wondering if anyone out there could point me in the right direction I don't remember for sure where I heard about this. The more I think about it seems like a story my father told me when I was a teenager and me reading books about WW2 Planes. At any rate, my question is this : Did the RAF...
Here's a Tamiya 1/48 kit just recently finished. I decided to have a go at cutting and altering the wing flaps to add some interest as I planned to display the model 'in flight'. It was my first attempt at doing that so I was a bit nervous of the results I'd get. The kit went together very well...
