Hey folks,
Here's my rendition of the old 1/72 Airfix Bristol Blenheim Mk IV model kit which I built back in 2013. I wanted to depict a Blenheim MkIV, RAF 34 Squadron, dispatched in Tengah Airfield, Singapore, circa 1942, just before the capitulation of Fortress Singapore by Commonwealth forces. This is one of the difficult Airfix kits to work with as the plastic was quite brittle. And as an old Airfix kit, it was just begging for additional detailing to make it more interesting, namely;
1) Additional detailing for the cockpit and bombardier's position;
2) Added detail for the rear turret and guns;
3) Added detail for the oil cooler intakes for the engines, prop boss details, engine cowling and shortened engine housing;
4) Updated main landing gears with white metal parts and correct bigger size tires;
5) Mini bomb rack;
6) Re-scribed panel lines;
7) Added details for the bomb bay doors;
8) Added rear firing chin turret and gun;
9) Added gun sight bead;
10) Added aerial wires with fishing line;
11) New chin pitot;
Paints were Mr Hobby and weathering with Tamiya Accent Panel Line and finished Mr Hobby weathering powders. Decals were printed and top surface roundels were painted on.
Airfix is releasing a new tooling version of this old kit this year.
