Possibly got that story from UBC. My brother-in-law said the lab students would grow baby rats and mice in empty bottles from various brewerys around Vancouver. When they got big enough, they would fill the bottles with beer, cap it and take it back to the brewery. They would get a crap load of beer to keep quiet and they made sure not to hit the same brewery for a while
It was REAL??? LOL! Brilliant! The benefits of a post-secondary education.....

I'd love to see that. As a Canadian I'd get to experience some Dutch charm. It's closer than Sint Maarten.
Ah, you're Canadian. Sorry, my bad. Should have checked before I wrote that post.

But I think Dimlee Dimlee said it best. Ukraine has coped with losing the Crimea for more than 10 years, but Russia doesn't stop. Just coping with loss of land therefore does not seem to be a viable option. I think you're naive in thinking just giving up and then joining NATO will even be a possible solution.

The underlying and unasked question is "What would appease Putin?"

I think nothing short of the destruction of Ukraine and its absorption into Russia would sate him ... for the time being.

You never reward criminal behavior.

On the subject of appeasement:
Let's not forget these recent documents.

And this:

In a major policy change, the Biden administration will now allow U.S. contractors on the ground in Ukraine to help its military maintain and repair some of the $61 billion worth of weapons donated by America, CNN reported. In particular, the shift is designed to help keep F-16 Vipers and Patriot air defense batteries in working order.

Until this decision, the Biden administration has allowed only a small number of U.S. troops in Ukraine, mainly to help keep tabs on U.S. donated equipment, but no Defense Department (DoD) civilian contractors. However, there are a number of U.S. contractors working in Ukraine directly for that country.

The move was approved earlier this month, CNN reported, citing "an official with direct knowledge."

"In order to help Ukraine repair and maintain military equipment provided by the US and its allies, DoD is soliciting bids for a small number of contractors who will help Ukraine maintain the assistance we've already provided," a defense official told the network.

Continuing its sensitivity toward escalating the conflict and angering Moscow, the Biden administration won't allow those contractors anywhere near the fighting.

This is infuriating. All these new decisions, $6b in aid, allowing contractors to repair American gear, they could have been made at this time last year. I suspect I know why but cannot approach it within the scope of our rules.

ETA: On rereading this, I realized that no, the $6b couldn't have been released last year as it was tied up in Congress. Apologies for the error.
