How is it possible for McLaren build such beautifully Fast cars??????

Danny did a great move on the Alpines though. Unfortunately, he seems to have the same strategist as Ferrari. Last stint on the hards was not a good idea.

In the debate of old vs new, I hate the idea of a fan as a ghoul-waiting for the next crash. I'm glad for the safety improvements. It does, however, suggest a question of commitment. Hunt, Hill, Gurney, they all had a much higher level of risk than the modern drivers. So, while touching on the 'Realm of Imponderables', would modern era drivers had been competitive, or even raced, in the 60s or even 80s?

I doubt that Dunlop and Martin actually tuned their bikes, setting up the suspension to suit your riding is what all riders do, even I did that from my first race*. Sheene had a new frame made for his privateer bike, it had modified rake and trail on the front forks that made the steering "faster" but more jittery and less stable, on it he won a race against works bikes in the wet. Senna was much admired by his pit crew specialists, he could recall how changes made to his car felt lap by lap, a very special mental skill that few have.

* I pre loaded the front springs by putting a car wheel nut on top of the springs in the forks. Used slightly more fork oil of a heavy grade, put on a steering damper and had it on next to full setting, oh and I used a mash hammer to make sure the exhausts never touched the track. It didnt take kindly to rough surfaces but had great ground clearance AND didnt dive too much under braking, which is how most passing is done.

If the documentary "Yer Maun" is to be believed, Joey did. One particularly humorous incident was a Honda engineer was assigned to him and when this engineer arrived from Japan, Joey had the secret, proprietary racing carbs stripped anf hanging from the garage doors, in the rain, by the throttle cables.

But setting suspension is an acquired skill. My hat is off to you because that can go awry fast.
 
Went to the Aus GP, sat in the Rcciardo seats for a Quali. Right in the sun, rain! Shoulda just thrown my money into the wind. Even the first day no big DR shirts.

Watched the Race from my hotel room. Much better! Never again.
