Imagine it's 1945 and you are part of the forces sent aloft to stop the Superforts. You climb out of the haze and notice a reflection in the distance, which when focused on becomes 20, 30, or 40 of these behemoths. I think it might be a bit intimidating to stick ones nose into that hornets nest...

On that note does anyone have any knowledge of how well the remote control turret system worked in combat?

    Cheers,
    Biff

Certainly looks much better today than when we drug it out of the sand. Had to dig ramps in the sand to get it moving, burned up 2 APC transmissions trying to tow it before getting it to a hard enough surface for other tow vehicles. I am talking about the 1987 move, not the 1998 move where front loaders were used.

Hello Token, are there any photos of Doc when "found" in the desert? The aircraft looks pretty good in the only shot I have seen...

I see your image of the B-17 named the Nine O Nine. I was lucky enough to see her & a Liberator named Witchcraft when the Fillings Foundation flew into the airport in Orange, Massachusetts in 2013. Here are a few pictures of them: 20130912_161845(1).jpg 20130912_162559.jpg 20130912_162816.jpg 20130912_162847(1).jpg 20130912_162802.jpg 20130912_162140.jpg 20130912_161822.jpg 20130912_161749(1).jpg 20130912_161749(1).jpg 20130912_161707.jpg 20130912_161540.jpg

Please let me correct the spell check typo from my post. The 2 aircraft were from the "Collings Foundation".

Nice, hopefully she will pass FAA in a month or less and start the rounds. One B-29 (FiFi) Two B-29's (Doc) I love to count.

Yeah I caught them down in Sugarland about 6 years ago. Collings Foundation has there F-4D and TA-4J here in Houston and I help change an engine in the F-4 before I was rudely Laid off at HP. Couldn't make the trip after that. I am a member of the CAF here in Houston with Texas Raiders and go down to LSFM to see Thunderbird as much as I can. 318251_3972832289473_801125869_n.jpg 464107_481721931899627_865659001_o.jpg 535784_3972814409026_480782276_n.jpg 535784_3972814489028_1532118061_n.jpg Collins Foundation 7&8 march 09 134 - Copy.jpg Collins Foundation 7&8 march 09 137 - Copy.jpg Collins Foundation 7&8 march 09 139.jpg DSCN0059.JPG

It must have been quite an experience to work on the old planes! Talk about a job you can love! Very nice pics as well. I have a flight on a B-17 on my bucket list & hopefully this summer I can make it happen.
