New to the forum and just feeling my way around, so much to catch up on! I have a question about the third photo, B-25s being assembled. Why are they yellow? Is it some kind of primer before being painted olive drab? I'm used to seeing aluminum finish on aircraft under construction and thought they just painted over that. I'm sure with all the experts on this forum someone can enlighten me. Thank you in advance.

Skipperbob. Yes, that's zinc chromate primer, applied as an etch and primer undercoat, before the Olive Drab and Neutral Grey. The 'bare metal' finish came about to save production time, and weight, and started to appear around late 1943, but mainly from February 1944.

In a former life, I worked for a major photo retailer and photofinisher. We got to see some very interesting photos over the years, but the WWII Kodachromes were amazing even 50+ years after the fact. That was unquestionably the best film of the day, and preserved exceptionally well also. Alas the digital world....

Great pics, Socks!

Have been collecting pics of WW II era aircraft for many years and I stumbled across these awhile ago, thought they were interesting. I believe they are just "colorized" bw photos but have never seen anything like them before. If they are colorized, some one went to a lot of trouble! Any ideas? I apologize if they are a re post. I'm still new to the forum and haven't been able to check everything out yet!
