Looking good Andy. As far at the putty, thin layers a day or two apart may work fine. I did it all at once and that may have been the problem. Hard on the out side but still soft inside

Thanks for the comments everyone. I spent much of my modeling time doing more of the same but I think I'm close to scribing now. There have been 3 or 4 passes of sanding/puttying/priming and I have the areas on the fuselage and wing roots how I want them. But before adding another primer layer on local fixes, I decided to glue the tail planes and engine on. Here are a series of pics showing the extensive body work.

The joints where the engines mate to the wings are pretty good but they will will also need a bit of filling. I'll show more of that in detail when I get to it.

Also tackled this weekend was the remaining canopy section. I will be posing the entry hatch open and will use a section of Terry's vac-formed canopy for this. This required that the kit-provided section be cut out and the next series of pics shows how I did this. First, the unmodified piece:

I first taped along the lines to be cut and drilled some holes.

Then I cut between the holes with a fine saw, removed the section, and smoothed the cut surfaces on the canopy.

Next, I attached some bits of sprue on the cut edges (hard to see here) to make the edges look a bit more structural when I paint them. I also began adding the rivet decals and ran out so I'll need to make more.

Thanks again for looking in.
