Crikey Karl, that's some gap. Have you by chance got something in your spare decal box that is the same colour red that you can use to substitute with. I've had similar problems like this in the past and have used bits of old decals to get over it. If not mate, good luck with the painting.

I had the same problem many years ago with a 1:72 Italeri UH-1B, and Revell P-51B. I carefully hand painted the missing markings.

I'm sure yours'll come out fine too mate.

ok after 3 attempts this is the best i could do, it should look a little better after a bit of gunsmoke and weathering around the 20mm ports

i've also built up the landing gear and painted and attached the vertical stabs and rudders but my batteries died after that one picture
