The Subject chosen for this GB, is the Petlykov Pe-2 first produced by Zvezda and reboxed under the Eduard Label, with all the Bells and whistles. This is my first actual Russian aircraft and I look forward to the build.
The Pe-2 or "Peshka" was considered one of the best ground attack aircraft of WW2, in it's early stages it was designed as a high altitude escort fighter, successful flight trials and production was authorized.
Then a redesign was ordered at the eleventh hour as a Bomber and extreme pressure was put on the Petlyakov team to deliver an improved design in 45 days!
The 'New' aircraft was ready to fly in Dec.1940 and rushed into production, by mid 1941 almost 500 had been issued to front line units. Performing Ground attack duties, reconnaissance and nightfighter rolls.
The Pe-2 continued production with various modifications right up to the end of WW2 and continued to be used by several Eastern European nations after the war, over 11000 aircraft were produced.

Nice. However the sixth shot from the top presents a Tu-2 landing gear with the prop and engine nacelle. The Pe-2 is the background one.
