Well good news and bad news. Got all of the final assembly done but the bad news is the gloss black on the main plane still is not dry. We had cold rain all weekend but it's still tacky to the touch and I got some fingerprints on it already. So will wait until next week, if it is dry should be easy to finish up installing all of these parts.

Here are the clear parts, masked and painted interior green, when dry gave it a coat of the gloss black. You can also see the radar pod, painted the same gloss black as the rest of the plane but it dried nicely on this part.

Here are the landing gears, I drilled the axles and added .032 brass rod since I don't want these breaking off holding the heavy booms. I added brake lines from black beading wire. The nose gear has an additional light that was installed on the -M. I made a bracket from sheet styrene and glued an old MV lens made for model railroads but work great for 1/48 lights. I made the pod around the lens from white glue and painted it black when dry.

Last but not least, I had an extra set of Quickboost resin superchargers that look much better than the original Monogram parts. I painted them stainless steel then sprayed areas with Metalizer burnt iron. A black wash made it look more realistic.

Getting ready for final assembly, I needed to get an extra week but will be done by Sunday. Added landing gear, gear doors, fuel tanks, rocket racks and radar pod tonight. About all that is left is the canopies, which are already painted.

Mission accomplished, P-38 M is complete. Will still need to weather it and add lights, but for now I am calling it complete to finish by the extended time line. Now I just have to figure out where to post the completed photos.
Thanks
Dave Calhoun

I tried to post a finished thread but it dosen't appear to have uploaded. Is the group build already closed?
Thanks
