Scandinavian Front
Home Front

Nothing in any of them; nothing for KG 54 on that date.

Inital 'digging' shows his body was washed ashore at Creil Plage, France, on 25th August 1940. So it now becomes a case of the number of days his body was in the Channel before being found on the shore. The date on his gravestone is given as 25th August, but that is obviously wrong. Not the first time the date a body was washed ashore was given as the date of death.

Stab I./KG54 Junkers Ju88A-1. Shot down by fighters during sortie to Farnborough and crashed in the Channel. FF Oberlt Kurt Erdmann killed, BF Oberlt Georg Meyer (Geschwader NO), BO Uffz Hans Haferkamp, and BS Uffz Gustav Bortz all missing.

4.(F)/121 Dornier Do17P-1(3581). Crashed following collision with Ju52 of 1./KGzbV.1 shortly after take-off from Mannheim-Sandhofen. BO Oberlt Walter Riebicke, FF Uffz Heinz Zielke, and BF Uffz Hans Kramer all killed. Aircraft 100% write-off.

Kramer was the wireless operator (BF = Bordfunker); the pilot was Zielke (FF = Flugzeugführer - pilot).
