At first I thought this image was flipped but the canopy opening is the correct orientation! Weird that kill and mission markings would be on the starboard side of the fuselage.

The J might be the superior plane but lines of the P-51D are all that and a bag of fries.

The J wasn't that good because of issues with the Allison engine (that would reappear in the mass produced F-82s). The Merlin powered F/G did lead to the P-51H and the original XP-82/F-82B, however.

The P-51J first flew on April 23, 1945 almost 3 months after the P-51H (Feb 3, 1945). By the time it first flew it was irrelevant.
