Could well be for bombs. Early war bombing often involved munitions being hand-dropped by the pilot over the side of the fuselage. Such an approach would work with the aircraft shown at #7 because the fuselage/wing configuration could well result in the bomb hitting the airframe as it fell. Dropping the bombs down the schnoz at the front of the fuselage would overcome this problem, albeit in a rather inelegant manner.
 
Farman MF11

I don't think it is; it has a single fin and high mounted tailplane, which means its likely that its a Henri Farman (F.40) as opposed to a Maurice Farman MF.11, which had twin fins and low tailplane, like the F.40 pic in post 3. That F.40 pictured was a 'Horace' Farman, a combination of both Maurice and Henri's designs in one aeroplane, by the looks of things; F.40s usually had the high tailplane and single fin.
