eagle, i do not know you personally but your posts are excellent and to the point and your knowledge is second to none. i have a great deal of respect for you and differences of opinion are what it is all about. if i have strayed into politics please accept my sincerest apologizes

Regardless of what you may have posted anywhere else, dude, you've got my respect (which usually doesn't mean much) for this one statement. That, my friend, is frikkin cool. :salute:

RA, while i sent that to eagle it goes for all of you. this forum is the most amazing place. the amount of encyclopedic knowledge present is literally unbelievable. i was looking at a posting where these guys had pulled up an old prop from the bottom of the ocean, bent, broken, and corroded. in 2 posts flyboy had IDed it.
and again differences of opinion are NOT personal. i have my beliefs and you have yours. it is what makes this world so interesting

hmmm i dont know man...taken from the us constitution ( bill of rights )

Amendment XV (1870)
Section 1.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

Amendment XIX (1920)
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

freedom is something of an enigma. whereas you hope and assume all people will be responsible and upright citizens. however, you find the bigot, scammer, various POS's, and @$$holes for which much blood is shed on the field of honor to give them the unbridled right to be bigots, scammers, various POS's, and @$$holes. and afforded all the accoloades of citizenship. and may it never be otherwise!

Who gets to decide what "serves" the nation? Is the guy who's dream was to open his own Pizzeria not deserving of having a vote? Does the guy who was in a car accident at the age of 13 and paralyzed for life from the neck down, not deserving of having a say in how our country is run?

Sorry it is a piss poor idea. Our "democracy" has evolved since the nation was founded. The "right" for everyone to vote was a step in the right direction.

In my opinion as soon as someone makes an attempt to say that certain citizens are not allowed to be represented or have a voice (by voting) then we are taking a step backwards. Again this is 2010 not 1776!

The day that we as a nation restrict people from voting because someone decides that others are not "worthy" enough because they did not "serve" there nation (who has the right to decide what is serving anyhow???), is the day that I will stop calling myself an American! I did not serve my country in the Army so that others can not have that right.

The problem with democracy is it is a flawed system only preferable to the alternatives, and if you want to see the drawbacks with democracy hold a meeting with the electorate.

with thanks to Winston Churchill

"The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter."
"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

Bobbysocks, first, hello, it has been a while since we've traded posts. as had been said we were getting too political so i won't rehash but please read post #32

tail end charlie, excellent quote, the US is of course not a democracy but a republic

Zeeeez I just Googled US and you are right, I thought it was still a British colony with a preference for salty tea.

Joking ...I said I was JOKING

Seriously, Churchill was an enigma, almost like the Bible you can pull up a quote to suit your ends, he was against women having the vote and in favour of chemical weapons....among very many other things good and bad. Still the world and the English language are better for his existance.

Heh. Think the lines between "democracy" and "republic" have gotten a bit blurred over the years. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the founding fathers warned repeatedly against ever forming a two-party system. Then its just a political race between differing political agendas, neither of which are typically "for" the average citizen.

TEC: I'm Texan. I prefer my tea sweet. Then again, we're the only state that has the option of pulling out of the Union if we so desire...its written into the Texas constitution. " Screw y'all, catchya latah! Oh...and since we're not part of the US anymore, we will no longer have any border control problems. We've got the Rangers!"

Mike, this forum is frikkin awesome! I'm interested in WW2 in general, and very interested in personal accounts moreso than any specific aviation focus. I found this site by searching for photos, I think, probably looking for more images of P38s or B24s (my grandfather was a prop specialist on -24's in Italy during the war...he always says he didn't do much, that it was the other guys who did more for the war effort than he did, but I'd have to say that the guys who rode his bird there and back would have to argue that, if the props hadn't stayed on, they couldn't have done their jobs very well), and stuck around because of the higher-than-average maturity level and general air of respect accorded to EVERY member of the boards, whether they have 5 or 50,000 posts. You won't find that on most sites.

I dont know the difference between a democracy and a republic, the French founded the first republic at almost the same time as the USA and they still say Vive la Republic but consider democracy as a virtue above others.

RA, could not agree with you more, i started here with a problem with some german aircraft i was working on. within a day or two i had my answer. i had posted this comment on another thread but the encyclopedic knowledge displayed by the people on this site is mind-blowing not to mention their willingness to help with just about any problem, even going out of their way to find answers. There is a thread about finding an old corroded prop on the ocean floor off france. within 2 posts flyboy had IDed it. this is a great site to say the least

Take all that nasty deep fried butter (and everything else you guys think you have to fry up) with you too!

you all in texas fry "butter"? i know you all have to have rifles in the back window of your pick-em-ups.
now mention tex-mex cooking or Bar-B-Q and we're in business!

Heh. I'm working on some deep-fried lard as we speak. And for the record, no, not everyone has a rifle in the back window of their pick-em-up. Only the nuns carry rifles. Everyone else uses shotguns, automatics, or large-caliber sniper gear. Heck...there's a trend towards bazookas now, too...kill the deer, skin it, fillet it, cook it all at once! Just drive around town with a rack of ribs and some bacon on the hood, and yer in bizness!
