I picked these up on Amazon. They seem to work not too bad for doing it by hand.

Yep, the sheet was a solid decal film so each one was cut out individually and if one was not careful the printing would rub off, but with a little care they worked really well. Unfortunately it seems they are no longer available but Printscale makes some, might be worth a try.
