OK so since I'm on a "let's try something else" kick, I'm working on the engines parts. Unlike many newer kits, Hasegawa did not spend the effort to do an engine that would never be seen and a waste of time, Oh did I say that out loud, you have the fan blades at the intake and a fairly nice exhaust system. I began by painting the AB cavitie Model Master Metalizer Gunmetal, this included the exhaust petals and the AB nozzles. I then went back and using Vallejo Model Air, I mixed white and dark ghost grey to get a dingy white. I sprayed the cans this over all. I took Model Master Metalizer Burnt Iron and over did the AB nozzles with this and than did a Vallejo black wash over the intake blades and the exhaust petals and AB nozzles.

I was working the intakes and this is the Intake which goes back into ducting to the intake blades. the ducting is a right left half and leaves a seam on the top and bottom of the ducting.

So I applied, abit heavy handedly, Tamiya white putty to fix all seams which should not be there.

I'll sand this down and we'll see where we art then. I plan on trying different shades of white giving a shadow effect going back. I don't know but I'll try.

Ok so a little while later and.......
I tried first to remove the wash with window cleaner, I don't know but i may have watered it down to much as nothing was happening. SOOOO I tried some Testors dry Acrylic paint remover, HUMMM, It did say ACRYLIC! Yeah, It took the laquer off as well. NICE.......

Well live and learn. So, the brown jar next to the paint remover is Dales secret acrylic paint thinner, I tried that and that was the thing I needed indeed, so I have so go back but "it's only Plastic" as Geo would say!

Next I tacked the intake ducts. Can't figure why my wife can never find her finger nail polish remover!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been thinking and now my head hurts really bad! Any ideas why that would happen? Any way, with the groups indulgence, I would like to swap the kit from the Hasegawa Tomcat to the Academy Tomcat. Same markings but to the Academy for the plastic. There are some things I want to change in display and the Hasegawa kit is best displayed in a cat shot display wings out and dirty laundry out and down. I don't want to build it wings back and in as stowed display, the Academy or Monovell are better for this display.

How say ye all?

Ohhh, I'm so confused, what should I do, what should I do. I think I'll just continue.

I tried building this kit back around 90, 91, I had the same issue and I wasn't sure if It was me or what. Figured I just didn't get it. Well I have the same problem and still think it me. I haven't seen it listed anywhere but I decided I would take it on. The problem I am having is the fit of the engine intake
ducting and the main gear well. The duct is too far forward and runs into the main gear well. I have tried several things all to no avail. SOOOOO I cut it out and that fixed it, well to the most extent anyway, I think I can force it all into play.

Moving along I finally got the intakes together and mounted. It had to go one section at a time. But it'll work.
If Hasegawa has a problem child, I think this is it. They didn't even put a wing glove on the kit. It does indeed have some fit issues, don't get me wrong, it's no Kitty Hawk, and that's a big plus.
