GB-64 1/48 P-51D "Race 6" - One Trick Pony

So, back on the bench.
Photo one, warning warning! Airfix! The tail wheel assy (1) has a long thin piece
attached to the spru, and looks like it should be cit off............ NOT....................
If you do, you will need to find a round piece 2.4Dia (2), drill a hole 1.4Dia for the
end of the tail wheel assy to fit in and drill out the 1.0 hole in the housing to 2.4Dia
and glue that 2.4Dia piece in it to support the tail wheel....... Just like I did!!!!!!!!

Now again in photo one, notice part (3) which is attached to the tail wheel housing,
I had to saw this off because the aforementioned faring, last post, extends onto this.
Photo three shows these glued in place. I used a PE saw.

Still thinking how to pull off the fairing...... couple of images ratling round in my head!
 
Good stuff Bill. The only thing I can suggest for that fairing is to cut a piece of styrene card that you shape, bend and glue to the fuselage to represent the edge of the fairing. Once you're happy with the edge curve, putty top and bottom surfaces and sand to blend into the fuselage and rad housing.

This is what I came up with.
First photo,
1. pencil line for the curve. Then tape on top.
2. Cut the tap to shape,
3. Used the cut off part for paper pattern.
Second photo,
1. Used that paper pattern to shape a 1.5x1.5 Sq styrene
strip for final location of styrene sheet.
2. Drilled .8mm holes for styrene rod both sides of strip.
3. Rolled and shaped styrene sheet fitted between rods.
I will glue the rods to both sides of the strip. This should hold fast. Not
having to rely on a thin Edge that would probably fail. Now I'll pile on
the filler, of some kind to both sides of the strip and shape! Easy peasy!!!
Last, a bit of gluing up...................
