Elvis, thanks. That is one of those stories that could be a good movie too. Good post, appreciated. She must have been one heck of a fighter pilot.

It would be a good movie. Even a twist at the end, as she was shot down but her body was never found. Due to Stalin's policy of executing any pilots who were shot down behind enemy lines, and managed to make it back, if she survived being shot down, she wouldn't have returned. There was some speculation that she lived out her days in Scandinavia (I can't remember exactly where).

There is a book of her life called "White Rose of Stalingrad" which is pretty good. She certainly lived an interesting life: The Short, Daring Life of Lilya Litvyak
