Nice job Keith. Bob Stanford Tuck's aircraft, late 1940/early '41 I believe?

It is indeed. V6864 built by Glosters,Aug/Sept 1940. Incidentally this is not the early two tone (Night/White) scheme. This aircraft was produced with a Sky underside. Order X798 of 27 Nov 1940 stipulated a Night port wing along with the 18" Sky fuselage band and yellow outer ring to the port underside roundel. Also a Sky spinner, though Stanford-Tuck seems to have been above this. The scheme was short lived, the black port wing underside was removed, and returned to Sky, by an order of 22 April 1941.

Hi Dirk. This was the stipulated scheme for all day fighters between November 1940 and April 1941.The RAF was pretty vigorous about applying these orders which are very precise and leave little room for interpretation.
